MUVJBL Round 9
Round 9 only saw the Junior Braves with one victory, after a mostly disappointing week our focus is on next week with both our under 16 sides competing at the MUVJBL National Junior Classic with the 16 boys in excellent form winning their last 4 MUVJBL matches.
Under 14 Girls
The under 14 girls hosted 2nd placed Ballarat on Friday night and only just lost by 8 points, this keeps the Junior Braves side in 4th place and in finals contention. Kaleah Bonanno top scored for the Junior Braves with 12 points including 1 three pointer Phoebe Radford also chipped in with 6 points.
Under 16 Girls
The under 16 girls had their 2nd defeat of the season, going down to 5th placed Hawthorn. The girls started off strong but let the game slip with only scoring 6 points in the last quarter, the Junior Braves side ended up losing the match 44 to 50. Meg McCarthy and Tayha Watkins both scored over 10 points with 2 three pointers each. The under 16 girls now have their eyes on the MUVJBL National Junior Classic, they will play their first game against Adelaide based Forestville Eagles. In their second match they will go face to face with Dandenong who are currently 4th in the Watson VC division. In their 3rd match of the day on Saturday the Junior Braves come up against Sydney based club Hornsby Spiders.
Under 14 Boys
The under 14 boys came up against the 3rd placed Keilor who were too strong for the under 14’s side, the game ended in a 41 to 72 loss. There were no player stats for this game, the Junior Braves side have a bye for round 10 and are still waiting for the next half of the fixture to be published.
Under 16 Boys
The under 16 boys had a slow start against rivals Ballarat only scoring 10 points in the first quarter to Ballarat’s 23 points. The Junior Braves side then outscored Ballarat 27 to 12 points in the second, the under 16 boys just held on to the victory and won the match 68 to 63 points. Dyson Daniels again had an outstanding game scoring a season high of 26 points which included 7 three pointers, Dylan McCauley had 10 points with 3 three pointers and Macey Eaton had an impressive game with 9 points of his own. The Under 16’s side are now focusing on the MUVJBL National Junior Classic, the Under 16’s side are competing in a pool with Sydney based Hills Hornets, Adelaide based Sturt Sabres and Dandenong.
Under 18 Boys
The under 18 boys came away from Collingwood with a 32 to 53 loss, there were no player stats for this game. The under 18’s will be hoping to bounce back against Camberwell next week when they travel to play the 9th placed team.
