The now Powers Express Junior Braves have been competing in the Basketball Victoria Country Championships since 1967 (when the first country commission was started).
A letter was written to the Bradley University asking permission to use the Braves nickname for the Bendigo Basketball teams. The letter was replied by Jim Dynan on the 19th December 1967 from Bradley Braves;
“In reply to your request to use “Braves” as your team name we would be only too pleased for you to use it and Bradley extends best wishes for a successful basketball program for the new Bendigo Braves.”
