This was a tough Tournament with a lot of good players, our div 4 side did an amazing effort being put in the div B. First two game was a very slow start for our team, but tried against two strong side but, Our team fouled a lot to the point of giving lots of free shots for the others teams, we found our game against the other Braves Div 3 team winning by 10points giving our team a good spirit going into the 4th game with another win, A very long day coming in to 5th round and 4th game for the day everyone tired but they all try their best unfortunately didn’t get the win, finishing 4 on the ladder great team and all made some very good friends, a lot of tears as last tournament together, also parents and kids showed their appreciation to both the coaching team and the Team manager for all their hard work, we believe the girls hit the goals we set out at the start of the season, well done Bendigo Brave div 4

This tournament was our final for the 22-23 season and we had a full team going into the tournament. With a pretty grueling schedule, late games matched with early morning games the entire team put in a mammoth effort to make it to the Grand Final, and came through with a 2 point nail biting win in the GF. Throughout the entire tournament our girls showed both a fabulous work ethic and amazing team spirit!!

Comments
The enthusiasm from the girls to play another tournament helped overcome the challenges to attending this tournament due to availability of several players and coaches. Arrangements were finalised with 10 days to go to ensure we could participate with some key recruitments from within the program with a reduced number of teams entered it was a combined Under 18/20 Girls competition of only 5 teams. Our team hadn’t played or trained together since February at Wodonga and whilst not confident, they still looked forward to the opportunity to represent Bendigo. The Braves managed to win 3 of 4 round robin games to finish 2nd on the ladder with a couple of the games stretching out to large winning margins. A niggling ankle injury forced one of our squad out for the semi final clash with the Melbourne Warriors U20 team. It was another physical and close encounter with plenty of spectators eager to see who would secure the remaining grand final berth. The momentum and lead changed many times throughout the game and the Braves were almost overrun in the final minutes of a very tense match. Arriving at the Grand Final match against the undefeated Westgate Imperials the Braves had nothing to lose and started with strong defensive pressure which rattled the opponents. Westgate got themselves into foul trouble early and at halftime they were well behind and looked lost. In the second half the foul count was more even with both teams having several players on 4 personal. The Braves managed hold off a late surge from Westgate to hang on to the lead for a very satisfying 5 point win to secure the tournament championship.
Grand Final MVP: Michelle Vanzuyden (Bendigo Junior Braves #20)
It was a very rewarding and enjoyable final tournament for the team and families. A special thanks to Under 16’s Macey and Georgia and Coach Joe A for filling in and making it possible.
